✧ THE PROBLEM ✧

Creating novel, AI-driven concepts for the Healthcare Robotics Summit

Part of the 2024 HFES International Symposium in Chicago, Illinois, the Robotics Summit gathered experts for lectures and talks.

Create a complete product ecosystem that interfaces with medical monitoring equipment

Create novel designs without violating our NDA with Stryker

Explore design solutions for designing for AI advances

✧ IDEATION ✧

Current methods of Robotic intervention cause significant inefficiency, leading surgeons to bypass using them, despite their increased accuracy

The team explored a variety of concepts that would enable surgeons to make more accurate pedicle placements without hindering their workflow or process.
Smart overlays give surgeons more information while preserving the C-arm view

Semantic color use would give surgeon important information at-a-glance

Designs needed to help improve surgeon's accuracy in spinal fusion surgery without slowing them down

✧ INITIAL DESIGN ✧

AI-powered suggestions can help reduce the number of modifications needed later in the surgery, saving time and increasing accuracy

AI-powered suggestions reduce the number of modifications needed later in the surgery, saving time and increasing accuracy

Accurate and continuous feedback help surgeons increase health outcomes and accuracy.
An "AI View" screen helps to increase transparency of the AI system and help technicians troubleshoot issues

Suggestions are made with an outline, while detected placements are indicated with a filled treatment

The system continually recalculates the placement of the screws and rods after every placement, leading to more effective placement

✧ ITERATION ✧

Multi-modal feedback to empower surgeons to do their best work

Continual feedback from C-Arm scans, combined with updated projections help surgeons avoid misplacement and mistakes.
An AI assistant allows the surgeon to use voice commands to advance to the next vertebrae, cutting down on contamination from touching the screen or a mouse

A 3D model of the spine gives multiple views to best inform the surgery team

Circumventing the need to plan every placement by hand, the new design can save surgeons time pre-op

The new design allows surgeons to save trajectories and place screws quickly, efficiently, and effectively

✧ IMPACT ✧

Strong concepts to drum up potential clients in the medical & healthcare space

The audience was receptive and interested in the future-forward concepts we presented.

More than 10 possible leads were generated through the participation of this symposium
